NEWTON, NC – The Central Carolina Football league is proud to announce the return of the Catawba County Hornets to the CCFL for the upcoming 2025 season. The Hornets have been a member of the CCFL since its inception in 2006 and have won 2 of the last 3 chamionships and 3 overall.
The Hornets have spent the offseason rebuilding after a semi final loss in their last season after 2 straight league championships. The CCFL will see the Hornets playing their home games at Westside/Jaycee Park in Newton, NC and will join four other returning teams in the CCFL.
Hornets owner, Doug Frye, said that the team spent a lot of time making sure that the franchise would provide a high-quality product for the Newton public.
"I'm excited about getting new blood into here and getting started here in 2025,” Frye said during a recent league conference call. “We may not be great at getting the technology part, but we can sure tell you on the field, we’re gonna kick your [expletive]”
CCFL Commissioner Vernon Powell expressed that the CCFL is happy to be bringing the Hornets back to the league in 2025. The league has seen the addition of several teams since the end of the 2024 season.
